The Majlesna Bhajetna project has established social accountability committees in 40 village council areas to increase local participation in decision making. Last month, live streaming sessions were conducted with experts and representatives of the village councils to discuss all aspects of local accountability including activating the role of youth, women and persons with disabilities, the media and other partners.
These sessions were podcasted live and watched by more than 44,000 citizens. Thirty-eight village councils have now agreed to adopt a Citizens Charter setting out how they will engage the public in their work.
