The “Himaya 2” project, implemented by Palestinian Vision Organization with funding from UNMAS, focuses on strengthening emergency preparedness and response in Palestinian refugee camps. Building on the success of the initial “Protection” project, this phase reinforces the role of youth emergency committees in Jenin, Nur Shams, and Al-Far’a refugee camps, ensuring their capacity to respond effectively to crises and protect local communities.
Sustaining and Expanding Emergency Response
To enhance the sustainability and impact of the youth emergency committees, the project provides:
- Advanced first aid and civil defense equipment, improving response capabilities.
- Strengthened partnerships with the popular committees for services, securing permanent spaces for meetings and equipment storage.
- Institutional recognition of emergency committees as official volunteer units, ensuring ongoing supervision and support.
Committees’ Role Amid Escalating Risks
With continued military aggression targeting refugee camps, the youth emergency committees actively coordinate with local authorities to:
- Conduct awareness campaigns on emergency procedures and safety measures.
- Distribute humanitarian aid and organize free medical relief days for affected residents.
- Provide first aid and assist displaced individuals in finding safer locations within the camps.
Key Achievements of Protection 2
- Expansion of youth emergency committees, now comprising 65 trained volunteers, including 36 women.
- Institutional agreements with local committees, ensuring long-term support and operational continuity.
- Specialized training programs, covering:
- Disaster risk management and emergency response strategies.
- Advanced first aid techniques and psychological first aid (PFA).
- Community awareness on the dangers of explosive remnants of war (ERW) and landmines.
- Provision of additional emergency response equipment, bolstering preparedness efforts.
The “Himaya 2“ project plays a crucial role in strengthening community resilience, empowering youth-led emergency committees to safeguard their communities and respond swiftly to crises.
