Bouthur “Youth for Employment in South Hebron” project is implemented by Palestinian Vision Organization (PalVision) in partnership with Al-Aroub Agricultural School. The project is part of “TVET and Employment Promotion Program” which is implemented by the GIZ on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany. Bouthur targets over 45 participants, aged 15-29, from “Area C” including Dura, Yatta, and Ad-Dhahiriya.
Bouthur aims to support Vocational Education and Employment in “Area C” through two training phases. The first phase covers life skills and employability skills including leadership, communication, presentation, time management, customer service, marketing and work ethics. The second phase covers three main themes in the agricultural field: plant production, animal production and food processing.
Theoretical stage of the trainings started in February and ended after a month and a half. The practical stage started in March and covered 12 training sessions in plant production, animal production and food processing. After completing the trainings, the participants will obtain a certificate in plant production, animal production, and food processing, which qualifies them to participate in the Palestinian labor market and increases their employability opportunities.
Amer Daraghmeh, PalVision’s South Coordinator, said that “Projects like Bouthur in South Hebron are considered a cornerstone towards youth’s participation in the Palestinian labor market; this project creates a golden opportunity for them”. He added “By the end of the project, we hope to provide job opportunities for 55 participants by networking with Palestinian companies in Hebron.” Development projects of this kind proves that organizations can contribute directly to fostering Palestinian economy and creating job opportunities through specific mechanisms in cooperation with private sector actors.
Bouthur targets 55 unemployed youth, school dropouts, or freed prisoners from the targeted areas. Youth participants demonstrated a keen desire to learn and demonstrated commitment to the training program, motivation to seek job opportunities and participate in the Palestinian labor market.
